Privacy Policy of Side Copilot
Robert Shaw ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Side Copilot Chrome Extension, website, web application, and related services. This Privacy Policy explains what user data we collect or process, how we use it, where it is stored, and the parties with whom it may be shared.
This policy applies to our website, https://www.sidecopilot.com , the Side Copilot Chrome Extension, SideSpace-related domains that support the same product, and any other online services that link to this policy.
This policy is effective as of July 4, 2026 and was last updated on July 4, 2026.
Information we collect or process
We collect or process only the data needed to provide, secure, support, and improve Side Copilot. The exact data depends on the features you use.
- Account and contact information: email address, account identifiers, authentication session data, profile information provided by OAuth providers, license status, subscription status, and support messages.
- Payment and billing information: payment processor customer identifiers, order identifiers, subscription plan, renewal status, and license metadata. We do not store full credit card numbers.
- Browser and extension data: tab titles, tab URLs, favicons, tab groups, windows, saved spaces, bookmarks, browsing history, recently closed sessions, top sites, page metadata, selected text, page content, screenshots, and files, when you use features that need that information. Optional browser permissions such as history, bookmarks, sessions, top sites, and web navigation are requested only when you enable related features.
- Workspace, chat, and AI data: prompts, chat messages, generated responses, selected browser context, saved spaces, shared spaces, shortcut settings, model settings, tool outputs, uploaded documents or images, PDF text, YouTube URLs or transcripts, and other content you ask the product to process.
- Integration data: information needed to connect third-party services you choose to use, such as Notion workspace/page identifiers, integration tokens, AI provider API keys, provider names, model choices, and endpoint settings.
- Device, usage, and security data: browser type, extension version, operating system, IP address, approximate region, request metadata, error logs, rate-limit information, and basic website analytics.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- provide the Chrome Extension, website tools, AI chat, browser organization, automation, and sync features;
- save and restore your spaces, tabs, settings, shortcuts, chats, and account preferences;
- send user-selected content to AI models or tools so they can generate responses or perform actions;
- authenticate users, manage accounts, verify licenses, process subscriptions, and prevent abuse;
- connect with third-party services when you request an integration, such as Notion export or import;
- respond to support requests, diagnose errors, maintain security, and improve product reliability;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
How information is stored
Some data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome extension storage, IndexedDB, local storage, or similar browser storage. This can include local spaces, tab data, settings, chat drafts, shortcuts, and user-provided API keys or endpoints.
If you sign in, enable cloud features, share spaces, use account-based chat history, purchase a plan, or use website tools, relevant data may be stored on our cloud systems and databases. We retain cloud data while your account or the relevant feature remains active, unless a longer period is required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, billing, or backup integrity. Local extension data remains on your device until you delete it, clear browser storage, or uninstall the extension.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share user data only as needed to operate Side Copilot, process transactions, provide user-requested integrations, comply with law, or protect our users and services. Depending on the features you use, information may be shared with the following categories of service providers and processors:
- Cloud hosting, database, authentication, and storage providers: Supabase and our hosting/CDN providers, used for account login, cloud sync, saved data, shared links, and backend APIs.
- AI model and inference providers selected by you or by the product feature: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Groq, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Together AI, Cerebras, xAI, Ollama or local endpoints, Side Copilot AI gateways, and other compatible model providers. Prompts, messages, selected page context, files, images, tool outputs, and metadata may be sent to these providers when you use AI features.
- Payment, subscription, affiliate, and license providers: Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, and related billing systems used to process purchases, manage subscriptions, verify licenses, and provide billing support.
- User-enabled integrations: Notion and any other third-party service you connect. We share only the data needed to perform the action you request, such as creating or updating pages.
- Website and tool infrastructure: PostHog and Ahrefs for website analytics, Upstash for rate limiting, Resend for email delivery, Tavily and Apify for search or video transcript workflows, Google/YouTube APIs for YouTube-related tools, and document, URL, or security infrastructure providers. These may process request metadata and the content you submit to the relevant website tool.
- Legal, safety, and business transfers: we may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
Chrome Extension permissions
The Side Copilot Chrome Extension requests permissions so that its features can work inside the browser. These include storage, tabs, tab groups, side panel, context menus, notifications, scripting, access to page content on sites you visit, and optional permissions for bookmarks, history, sessions, top sites, and web navigation. We use these permissions to read, organize, save, restore, summarize, automate, and manage browser context at your request.
Content from web pages, browser data, screenshots, selected text, and files are processed only to provide the features you invoke. When an AI feature or integration requires external processing, the necessary content is sent to the relevant service provider described above.
Your choices and controls
You can control your information in the following ways:
- delete local spaces, chats, settings, and browser data from the extension or by clearing browser storage;
- disable optional permissions such as bookmarks, history, sessions, top sites, and web navigation;
- disconnect integrations such as Notion or remove user-provided API keys;
- turn off or avoid cloud, sharing, account, or AI features that send data to backend services;
- request account or cloud data deletion by contacting us.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect user data, including HTTPS transport, access controls, and limited access to production systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Side Copilot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

If required by law, we will get your permission or allow you to opt in to or opt-out of, as applicable, any new uses of your personal information.
